Freemora vs Google Photos
Google Photos keeps your photos in Google’s cloud. Freemora copies them to your own computer or external drive.
At a glance
| Freemora | Google Photos | |
|---|---|---|
| Where your photos live | On your computer or external drive | On Google’s servers |
| Free storage | As much as your drive has free | 15 GB per Google account; Google is testing 5 GB for new accounts without a phone number |
| Paid | Not needed for one phone; several phones — Freemora Pro, $9.99 once (coming soon) | Google One from $1.99 a month for 100 GB |
| Needs your own computer | Yes, at home. It must be on to copy | No |
| Access from anywhere | Through the Freemora bridge (beta) | Yes, from any device |
| Off-site copy (fire, theft) | No — keep a second copy | Yes |
When Google Photos is better
- You want your photos on any device without a computer of your own.
- An off-site copy matters — in case of fire or theft.
- You’re happy to pay a subscription and like Google’s search and shared albums.
When Freemora is better
- You don’t want a monthly bill: Freemora is free for one phone and one computer.
- You want the files with you: plain year/month folders on your own drive, no lock-in to an app.
- Copying runs over home Wi‑Fi — no mobile data needed.
- The free 15 GB ran out long ago, and you don’t want to pay for Google One.
Use both
Google Photos and Freemora don’t get in each other’s way. But if Google Photos sync is on, deleting a photo on the phone may remove it from Google Photos too — free up space only with that in mind.
Freemora is beta software without warranty. Checks lower the risk but don’t remove it: drives fail and computers get lost. Keep important photos in at least one more place. See the Terms of use.
